Speeding lorry mows down three on NH 66

Three persons were killed on the spot at Mastikatta village in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night when a speeding truck hit them.The incident took place on NH 66.

Karwar: Three persons were killed on the spot at Mastikatta village in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night when a speeding truck hit them. The incident took place on NH 66.
According to police the truck first knocked down Siddavva Halappa Ganiger, 55, of Hubballi and then ran over Kallappa, 45, and Channappa, 35, of Ugginakeri village in Kalaghatagi taluk in Dharwad district.
Kallappa and Channappa were the driver and cleaner of another truck. They had parked their truck at Mastikatta to have tea and were standing by the roadside. Siddavva and her family had come for a tour and were returning to Hubballi after visiting Sonda, Murudeshwar and places in Uttara Kannada district. Siddavva had crossed the road to go to the toilet and the speeding lorry mowed her down first and later ran over the other two. All the three victims died on the spot, police said.
The lorry which killed the three persons belongs to Goa. Soon after the accident the driver and the cleaner of the lorry escaped from the spot. Arun Kumar Kolur, circle inspector of Ankola police station, said efforts are on to trace the duo
