Youth washed away as lake wall collapses

A 32-year-old man was washed away after the wall of a lake was breached by gushing waters and entered the check dam where he stood close to his oil engine in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district on Monday afternoon.

Surat: A 32-year-old man was washed away after the wall of a lake was breached by gushing waters and entered the check dam where he stood close to his oil engine in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district on Monday afternoon.
Vijay Hiraman Sarnayak of Virashetra village had gone with his father Hiraman to shift their oil engine from near the check dam around 1pm when the wall of the nearby lake collapsed.
Vijay was washed away by the strong currents of the water. Local villagers were unable to locate Vijay's body.
Meanwhile, Dang in south Gujarat received moderate rainfall on Monday. It had recorded heavy rainfall a day before. Wagai in Dang recorded 26mm, Saputara 14mm and Ahwa 37mm of rainfall on Monday. Valsad district's Kaprada taluka recorded 38mm, Umargam 30mm and Vapi 22mm of rainfall during the day.
