Thiruvananthapuram: The police team probing the alleged murder of Maryadas, 45, of Koliyoor on Monday recovered the murder weapons. The weapons, a sledgehammer and a crowbar, were recovered from a vacant plot on K S Road near Kovalam junction, which is around three km away from the crime spot.
It was the second accused Chandrasekharan alias Chandran, who showed the police the place where they abandoned the weapons.
The police, however, did not take him to the house of the deceased fearing the wrath of agitated local residents.
The first accused Anilkumar alias Kolus Binu was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
According to Chandran, he came from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday evening and met Anilkumar at Kovalam junction. They set out to Maryadas's house by midnight. It was Anilkumar, who broke open the kitchen door using the crowbar. Once they got inside, they attacked Maryadas and wife Sheeja. They then snatched the gold chain, which Sheeja was wearing and also took a small box, in which the family used to keep money.
Chandran told police that after committing the crime, he along with the first accused returned to Kovalam junction, where they abandoned the tools. They then left for Poovar from where they boarded a bus to Tamil Nadu in the early morning.
On Monday, Chandrasekharan was produced before the court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
Vizhinjam circle inspector S Nuooman said that the police also filed an application before the court seeking custody of the two accused for further investigation. In the application, the police stated that the two accused needed to be taken to the crime scene and also to other places, where they met and hatched the plan for the crime as part of further investigation.

Also on the day, deputy commissioner of police G Siva Vikram met the representatives of local residents at Koliyoor as well as local political leaders and requested their cooperation to complete the process of collection of evidence from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, Sheeja's condition remains to be critical. She is still under observation in the intensive care unit.
