Woman kills self; husband arrested

A woman from Tiljala on Sunday set herself on fire and subsequently succumbed to her injuries.Her husband Sk Gulzar and his parents were arrested after a complaint was lodged at Topsia police station.

Kolkata: A woman from Tiljala on Sunday set herself on fire and subsequently succumbed to her injuries. Her husband Sk Gulzar and his parents were arrested after a complaint was lodged at Topsia police station.
Sources said the victim Farha Begum reportedly killed herself because she could not stand the torture at her husband and in-laws' hands. Gulzar and Farha had been married for the past six years, and for the last couple of them they had been constantly fighting.
On Sunday night, the couple fought again, after which the woman poured kerosene on herself. Farha's family claimed there was no attempt by Gulzar to stop his wife from committing suicide.
Farha was rushed to the National Medical College, where she was later declared dead.
In another incident on Sunday, a body was fished out of a pond in Dhakuria. Police said there were injury marks on the body, but only a postmortem could ascertain cause of death.

Police said the victim has been identified as Farha Begum. Sources said Gulzar and Farha had been married for the past six years. For the past several years, the two have been constantly arguing. On Sunday night, the couple again fought with one another after which the woman poured kerosene on her. The family of Farha claims there was no attempt by Gulzar to stop his wife. A badly burnt Farha was rushed to the National Medical College where she was later declared dead. The arrests were made after a complaint was filed in this regard .
In the other incident, an unknown body has been fished out of a pond in Dhakuria in south Kolkata on Sunday late evening. Police said there were injury marks on the body. The Lake police said only a postmortem can ascertain the exact cause of death.
