Cristiano Ronaldo says Euro 2016 win was 'for all the Portuguese, for all immigrants'

Portugal’s forward Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t able to finish out the Euro 2016 final after hurting his knee in a collision with France’s Dimitri Payet, but he was still certainly able to celebrate his team’s victory. He lifted the trophy high above his head and kissed it, overcome with emotion after Portugal won its first ever major tournament.

After the game, Ronaldo dedicated the win to all Portugese, but also to the immigrants living in his home country.

“It was not the final I wanted, but I am very happy. It is a trophy for all the Portuguese, for all immigrants, all the people who believed in us, so I am very happy and very proud.”

Immigration is a hot-button issue in Europe right now: More than one million migrants and refugees fled their countries and crossed the borders into European nations in 2015, leading some authorities to call it the worst refugee crisis since World War II.
