Slough cemetery mourner's rapist jailed for life

A man who brutally raped a mourner as she paid her respects to a relative at a cemetery has been given a life sentence.

The victim, 56, was knocked to the ground from behind and suffered a head injury during the attack at Slough Cemetery and Crematorium in June.

Christopher Rode, 30, admitted two counts of rape and one of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He must serve a minimum of 14 years and eight months.

Rode, of of Granville Avenue, Slough, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court.

Det Insp Stuart Brangwin, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The horrendous attack on this woman while she was paying her respects to a loved one in a public crematorium was a truly dreadful crime which shocked the local community."
