Manchester United have been urged to withdraw from talks to sign Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba. Harry Redknapp, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, says he would balk at the 23-year-old's £100m valuation and would not swap the player for England's Dele Alli.

The Manchester Evening News understand that the Old Trafford club have agreed personal terms with the player's agent Mino Raiola and aim to tie up a deal for Pogba this week ahead of the start of their pre-season schedule. Pogba has been unable to hold talks directly with Jose Mourinho's side after a ban was put on agents visiting Les Blues' team hotel during the European Championships.

But following the conclusion to the tournament, which saw Portugal shock the hosts in the final after substitute Eder's extra time goal, Pogba is now free to begin talks with United. But Redknapp has advised the club to pull out of negotiations given the asking price being demanded by Juventus.

"If I was the owners at Man United I'd feel very aggrieved that we let him go on a free transfer and now we've got to pay £100m to buy him back," he told a Betsafe podcast. "My pride would stop be spending £100m on a player that we've given away. He's a great player; there is no doubt about that. I wouldn't swap him for Dele Alli. If you ask me, Dele Alli or Pogba who do you want, I'm taking Dele Alli long term."

Pogba was expected to be one of the stars of Euro 2016 but despite being currently subject of reports regarding a world record move to United, his underwhelming performances for France have raised a question mark over his ability. Alli meanwhile has enjoyed a stellar last 12 months since moving to Tottenham, but the 20-year-old also endured a troubled summer with England.

Should United complete a deal to sign Pogba it is likely to represent Mourinho's final piece of business this summer, after the Portuguese coach stated he was targeting four signings before the start of the campaign. Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan became the first three additions of the transfer window, but it is yet to be seen whether those signings can be added to.
