A round up of the day's MLS matches from the USA.

Sporting Kansas City extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 3-1 win over New York City FC at Children's Mercy Park on Sunday.

It was a busy start to the game as Benny Feilhaber opened the scoring in the eighth minute, tapping in from close range before Frank Lampard got New York back into the game six minutes later with a smart right-footed finish.

It was the third goal in three games for the former Chelsea and England midfielder, but the leveled scores did not last long as Sporting hit back two minutes later.

It was midfielder Jimmy Medranda who got his first MLS goal to restore the lead, rifling home from distance with the hosts leading for the remainder of the first half.

Ike Opara wrapped up the scoring in the 51st minute, holding off defender Frederic Brillant and drilling home from six yards out.

In the evening's other game, New York Red Bulls and the Portland Timbers played out a goalless draw at Red Bull Arena, and although both sides were in need of a victory, it was just the point on Sunday.
