Guwahati: Bodo Sahitya Sabha has urged Gauhati University (GU) to strengthen its Bodo department. It has also sought an increase in seats for ST students in B.Ed Colleges in BTAD.
"The number of teachers in the Bodo department of GU is low. Only two regular teachers for 90 students," BSS head Kamala Kanta Mushahary said after submitting a memorandum to the vice-chancellor of GU.
He added that even students studying Bodo in the Institute of Distance and Open Learning under GU are facing problems. "Not a single assistant professor or counsellor has been appointed in the department. To fill the post, an advertisement was published some years ago but no interview was held," he said.
There are only three colleges that offer B.Ed course in BTAD: Kokrajhar Government College of Teacher Education, Gossaigaon B.Ed College and Tangla B.Ed College. "These are not enough," he added.
