A workshop on Process Instrumentation and Control was organised by Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi.
P.S. Guruchandran, General Manager (CCDP), R&D and CR, BHEL, Tiruchi, who inaugurated the workshop, said there was a need for close interaction between academia and industry through all the phases of technology development, starting from conceptualisation down to commercialisation.
BHEL had been providing total solutions to the operation, control and optimisation of the utility and industrial power plants for more than five decades, he pointed out. G.Kannabiran, Director (in-charge), NITT, T.K. Radhakrishnan, N. Sivakumaran and K. Srinivasan spoke.
Conclave
About 200 entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs from across the State participated in ‘Start Up Tiruchi - A Conclave of People who dare to Dream,’ organised by CARE School of Business Management in partnership with Tiruchi Chapter of Young Indians.
“Entrepreneurs look for problems and think of ideas that solve the problem. The success of entrepreneur can be measured by three metrics – people, progress and planet,” said Nagaprakasam, Angel Investor/Mentor in Residence of N.S. Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, IIM – Bangalore.
Continuous improvement was the key to any start-up to succeed, he said.
Start Up Tiruchi is a series of talks organised by CARE School of Business Management to promote entrepreneurial thinking among the people. Students with business ideas will be chosen for mentoring. After the aspirant completes mentoring, the business idea will be proceeded to “Yu Try” event where the business idea will be pitched. Successful business ideas would be offered incubation, angel fund and mentoring by start up experts, a college release said.
Debate
Under the auspices of the ‘Kalam's Ambitious Dreams Movement Sneham Trust', a debate (patti mandram) was organised on the pros and cons of fashion for the youths career growth at Rane Polytechnic College at Viralimalai in Pudukottai district.
M. Saravanan, Principal of the college, presided over the programme which formed part of the observance of the Swamy Vivenanda's death anniversary.
V.C. Subash Gandhi, who was the moderator, spoke on the responsibility of the youth in building our country. He also distributed prizes to members of winning group.
J. Ilangovan, NSS Programme Officer, paid tributes to Swamy Vivekananda. A pledge on national integrity was administered on the occasion.
Clean-up
NSS volunteers of Venkateswara Polytechnic College at Kaikurichi recently took up a massive cleaning programme at the railway station in Pudukottai. They collected plastic and polythene waste materials from the platform, on the track and also in and around the railway buildings.
They also cleaned up thorny bushes in the area. R.M.V. Kathiresan, Principal, said that the students took efforts for removing broken pieces of bottles.
“The prompt disposal of garbage collected was ensured by the organisers,” he said.
P. Karuppiah, Correspondent, and Muruganandam, Governor of Rotary District, spoke. They underlined the need for keeping the railway station clean and tidy. The service by students would sensitise the railway passengers in this regard.
