Lucknow: National PG College (NPGC) will be the first-degree college in the city and second in the state after Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur to adopt the multiple choice-based question pattern in undergraduate exams.
The college will have 50% exams based on multiple choice question pattern. "One paper in each group will have multiple choice questions at the graduation and post gradation levels.
Of six papers in UG, one paper in each group will have multiple choice. Three papers will be based on the conventional examination system and three on multiple choice," said SP Singh, principal of NPGC. He said the college will be the first in the state to introduce the system at postgraduation.
In graduation, students will have 70 question carrying one mark each and in post-graduation, they will have to answer 80 questions. Over 6,000 students will be attempting question papers based on multiple choice questions from this year.
"The move will help speed up evaluation and announcement of result. Moreover, it will help students prepare for competitive exams and cost of examination will also reduce significantly," he added.
"We were the first two to go for the multiple choice question at the graduation level. As many as 32 lakh answer copies are evaluated in no time with the help of this system," said vice chancellor J V Vaishampayan, CSJMU. To ensure fair examination we have eight sets of question papers made for a subject so that students don't get the same questions to answer. Hence, there is no chance of cheating.
"At Lucknow University, the system was proposed five years ago when M K Mishra was vice-chancellor but it could not be introduced because of opposition from some teachers," said controller of examination A K Sharma.
