Ara: The roads in the town wore a deserted look on the second consecutive day on Sunday as businessmen observed bandh in protest against the murder of noted businessman and social activist Munna Sai on Saturday morning. Sai was murdered by four assailants near his house at New Area Babu Bazar under the Town police station area of Ara.
The BJP and Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) had given a bandh call on Sunday.
The district office-bearers and workers of both the parties stopped a Patna-bound passenger train at Ara railway station for some time in the morning. Later, HAM-S national spokesperson Danish Rizwan, state BJP spokesperson Sanjay Tiger besides other leaders and workers of both the parties staged dharna and took out a procession in protest against Sai’s murder.
Advocates, journalists, businessmen, theatre artists and people from all walks of life staged a dharna in front of Sai’s shop near Jain School on DT Road. When Sadar SDO Navdeep Shukla visited the dharna site, it was a rare scene when people started crying. Noted theatre artist and social activist Ashok Manav was leading the dharna. They demanded immediate arrest of the main assailant, Sonu Prasad, speedy trial of the case besides finding out through the CDR (call details report) whether there was any conspiracy behind the murder. The sadar SDO assured them of quick and visible action.
In the afternoon, Bhojpur SP Kshatranil Singh said three out of the four main accused had been arrested. He said four special teams have been constituted for the case. DSP (headquarters) JP Karna is coordinating the teams. Ravindra Prasad alias Nepali and his brother Sunny Prasad and brother-in-law Chandan Kumar were arrested. A countrymade pistol used in the killing and one empty cartridge were seized from the rented house of Sonu at Baghwa Gali under the Town police station area. The SP said the main assailant, Sonu, will be arrested soon. He assured of speedy trial in the case. Singh said he would himself supervise the case.
According to sources, Sai was killed over a trivial issue. On Friday night, an electrician named Ravindra Prasad alias Nepali asked for Rs100 as labour charge in a very rude manner to which Munna Sai objected. But the electrician became more rude and abusive following which Sai slapped him. To take revenge, the electrician with his two brothers and brother-in-law attacked and killed Sai when he was starting his scooty near his house on Saturday morning.
