Ex-TV anchor defeats LDP incumbent in Nagano Pref. electorate

Hideya Sugio, a former Tokyo Broadcasting System anchor running for the Democratic Party in the July 10 House of Councillors election, secured a seat in the Nagano Prefecture constituency for the first time.

Sugio's victory dealt a defeat to incumbent Kenta Wakabayashi of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The Nagano constituency had only one contested seat in the latest upper house race.
