Gurgaon: A year after it was announced, MCG is finally making four spots in the city WiFi zones in the first phase of the project being launched this Sunday.
Officials said these four spots will have at least 90 hotspots with minimum 10mbps speed each.
In the first phase, free internet will be available at Sadar Bazaar, Sirhaul, Leisure Valley Park and MG Road.
The first 30 minutes of surfing will be free, at a minimum speed of 10mbps, at the end of which standard carrier rates will apply.
"For the first 30 minutes the user will not be charged. The user will have to select the link and punch in the one-time password sent on the mobile phone. At the end of 30 minutes, if the user wishes to continue surfing, he/she will have to pay. Payment can only be made online using credit card, debit card or internet banking," said MCG joint commissioner Rohit Yadav.
He said there are a total of 90 hotspots in the four locations. When asked about the delay in the rollout, he said, "We could have launched this service earlier as well, but did not wish to hurry as we wanted to test it and ensure there are no glitches. For the past three months we have tested all aspects and have rectified whatever shortcomings were encountered".
Officials said MCG selected these four locations specifically because they have the maximum footfall in the city. It also claims that data security shall be the responsibility of the service provider, who is expected will comply with the directions of Central and state government.
In the second phase, Sector 29, Galleria, Sheetla Mata Road and Mahavir chowk will be covered.
Apart from launching the WiFi service, the CM will also launch 'Green Gurgaon' campaign in which MNCs will adopt roads close to their offices and plant trees, meanwhile ensuring cleanliness of the area.
