Surat: The railway staff at the station had a field day on Saturday when the driver of Bandra-Surat intercity train informed about a peacock's carcass stuck in the buffer of the train's engine.
The Bandra-Surat intercity arrived at right time, at around 11:10am, at Surat railway station. An adult peacock hit the train while crossing the tracks somewhere near Navsari and got stuck in the buffer of the engine.

The railway staff was in a deep worry as to how to remove the National Bird from the buffer. They contacted local NGOs working for the rescue and rehabilitation of the birds and animals, but all refused to remove the bird as it had died.
Passenger Service Committee (PSC) member Rakesh Shah, who was present at the railway station, was informed. Shah contacted SMC officials for help, but they too refused.
"We were running short of time, because the same train goes to Bandra from Surat at 1:30pm. I contacted minister of state for forest and environment Mangubhai Patel for his help. Patel immediately asked Surat's forest department officials to reach the railway station and claim the bird's carcass," Shah told TOI. A team of forest officials arrived at the railway station and claimed the dead peacock.
Area railway manager S K Yadav said, "Forest officials removed the dead peacock from the train's buffer and took it away. We were afraid after seeing the peacock as it is the National Bird. Things went off smoothly once the forest officials arrived at the spot."
