Two hydraulic cranes to fix defunct street lights

Patna: If everything goes well, the defunct street lights in the state capital will be functional as Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned to purchase two hydraulic cranes to repair them. As of now, a large number of street lights in the city are not functioning, causing great difficulties to Patnaites.
After a meeting with other officials on Saturday, PMC commissioner Abhishek Singh said the proposal would be sent to the empowered standing committee (ESC) for its approval.
Singh said except for the LED lights, the PMC would repair all the lights installed in the state capital, even if they had been put up by some other departments. "Our target is to repair all defunct street lights by mid-September, with focus on major roads. Later, we will shift our focus to the bylanes," said Singh.
The hydraulic cranes would be purchased within three weeks from the state energy department at the cost of Rs27 lakh. Apart from purchasing cranes, the PMC would also get one assistant engineer and four junior engineers from Patna Electricity Supply Unit (PESU) to carry out repair work.
"We would go with this issue in a planned way. After street lights, we will focus on high mast lights. We are also planning to attach timers to all the street lights so that they could be switched on or off automatically after sunset and before sunrise," the PMC commissioner said.
The city civic body boss also said a control room would also be set up to tackle the problem of defunct lights. "We would make such arrangements that damaged street lights get repaired within 24 hours of lodging the complaint," he said.
