Tumakuru district police have cracked the double murder case and arrested three persons.
Two unidentified bodies were found in a highly decomposed state on June 29 at Jodidevarahalli in Sira taluk. The victims have been identified as Chandrika (40) and her son Aravind (15).
The arrested are the residents of Koppal district and workers of H.R.G. Steel factory in Koppal district. The police gave their names as Vijay Bharathi alias Bijay Bharathi (45) and Umesh Yadav (32), both natives of Gaya in Bihar, and Kapil Bharathi (21), native of Chathra district in Jharkhand state.
Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy told reporters here that Vijay Bharathi was in a relationship with Chandrika, who was also from Bihar. She was separated from her husband. Her son from the marriage was living with her in Koppal district for the past three years. It is said that Chandrika used to frequently quarrel with Vijay Bharathi asking him to leave his wife and children. Hence, Vijay Bharathi and the two other accused hatched a plan to murder her. As per their plan, the trio invited Chandrika and Aravind to Sira taluk on the pretext of going on a picnic. After having lunch together, they strangled them and dumped the bodies in a bush nearby.
Mr. Reddy thanked the Mehboobnagar police for helping them trace and arrest the accused, who were hiding in Mehboobnagar district in Andhra Pradesh. He lauded the efforts of the Sira rural police and announced a cash prize of Rs.10,000.
