Saint stripped of his title for going 'Western'
Indore: The Panch Dhashnam Juna Akhara on Friday suspended the title of 'Mahamandleshwar' accorded to Shailesh Vyas, a disciple of saint Pilot Baba, for allegedly wearing western attire during a visit to Indore.
Vyas, a resident of Ujjain, was accorded the title of 'Mahamandleshwar' by the Juna Akhara during the recently concluded Simhastha Maha Kumbh.
He was also given a new name - Shaileshanand Giri.
In July first week, photographs of Vyas moving in western shirt and pant with a bag swung across his shoulder were circulated in the social media. The photographs were purportedly clicked during his visit to a shopping mall in Indore.
The matter came to the notice of saints' apex body Alkhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, following which it was referred to Juna Akhara functionaries. Parishad president Narendra Giri said since Shaileshanand Giri was from Juna Akhara, its head Hari Giri was asked to look into the matter.
The Juna Akhara functionaries held a meeting on Friday and decided to suspend the title accorded to Vyas. "We have formed a committee of senior saints to probe into the matter. However, during this period, if he (Vyas) is seen using the title, separate action will be taken," said Hari Giri.
However, after the photographs went viral on social media, Vyas had told reporters that his spiritualty should not be seen with reference to clothes that he wears. He was dressed for the occasion when the photographs were clicked. TNN
