Police launch hunt for Indore's own 'Veerappan'
Indore: Simrol police have rolled up its sleeves to apprehend Urban Indore's 'Veerappan,' who supposedly stays in jungles and attacks locals and couples venturing near the areas in search of secluded spots.
Veerappan, who wanders by the name Babu, has allegedly been involved in many loot cases in Simrol, Khudel and other area, including the much-hyped Kajligarh loot cases.
He is known to have been the mastermind of Kajligarh loot case. But, action was not taken against him as he was a minor then, said police.
Known to have taken shelter in dense forests of Simrol, Babu is very close to nature and lives like the much-dreaded criminal Veerappan.
"We broke a make-shift house that he had built in the forest a few days ago and also had burnt it to ground so that he could not return there," said former Simrol police station in-charge SD Mule. He has been recently transferred to Gautampura police station.
According to Mule, Babu was a part of the gang of looters, who were arrested in 2015 for allegedly attacking several youths in Kajligarh. The arrested gangster Sriram had also confessed that they targeted the couples, who came to find seclusion. The gang used to loot the couples and then rape the girls.
The truth come to fore after the gang tried to loot a group of B tech students, who went there for a picnic. The students reported the matter to the Simrol police station after which police came into action. "He was 17 and a-half-year-old when he was held for the loot cases. He had escaped action then. But, now he is 19 year-old. We have laid various traps in many places in and around the jungles but couldn't capture him," said Mule.

The nearby villagers and locals are fearful by his mere presence in the jungles. "No one knows where he lives. He commits loots wherever he likes and then flees to the jungles, where he takes shelter," said a constable involved in the line of investigations.
Babu of tribe Bhilala is known to eat leaves and fruits for survival and also sometimes sneak in to nearby areas and steal food. "I have given all the details to the new police station in-charge and we are hopeful of arresting the accused at the earliest," said Mule.
