Rajkot: Porbandar district police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Dalit farmer Rambhai Sangrakhiya, who was brutally thrashed to death by nearly 35 people, including the sarpanch of Sodhana village, on Wednesday afternoon.
"We have arrested three persons for allegedly killing Sangrakhiya. We cannot disclose their name as other accused are still on the run," said M S Rana, deputy superintendent of police, Porbandar rural division.
As many as 35 people were booked for beating Sangrakhiya to death on Thursday.
Rana said that the kin of the deceased dalit farmer on Friday accepted his body and performed the final rites. They took custody of body from Jamnagar Medical College morgue, he added. Sangrakhiya, a native of Sodhana village, had shifted to Porbandar one year back after some villagers allegedly set ablaze his standing crops. He feared for his life.
He had been farming on some portion of the government land for the past many years. However, some villagers took strong objection to his farming on the land, a portion of which they also cultivated. tnn
