Bharuch: A paediatrician was thrashed by relatives of one of his patients in Bharuch town for not offering proper treatment. Seven persons were booked for assaulting the doctor. Indian Medical Association, Bharuch chapter came out in support of the doctor and called for a bandh on Saturday in protest. Dr Nilesh Kachalia, who has a hospital at R K crossroads on Station Road, was punched and slapped in the face by angry relatives on Thursday.

According to police, a three-year-old was brought to Kachalia's hospital with a complaint of abdominal pain on July 5. The doctor hospitalised the child and upon improvement he was discharged on July 7. However, after reaching home, the child again complained of pain. He was again brought to hospital. Kachalia after checking said that the child had developed an infection in the liver and advised them to take him to Vadodara or Surat for treatment.
On hearing this, angry relatives of the child rushed into the doctor's chamber and beat him up. They also threatened the doctor with dire consequences if anything happened to the child.
G M Rathwa, police sub-inspector of A-division said "Kachalia has lodged a complaint against seven persons for assaualting and threatening him. The accused are with the kid in Vadodara. Once they come back, we will take legal action."
