Politico's husband held for assault

Ahmedabad: Khokhra police on Friday arrested the husband of a former councillor, Babu Desai, for assaulting town development inspector Mahendra Shrimali on June 23.
Police sources said the incident occured when the inspector and his team had gone to seal an illegally-built property near Vijay Park in Khokhra.
Police sources said Babu Desai is the husband of a former councillor.
"Desai himself is politically connected and enjoys the patronage of some senior politicians," added a police official.
According to police sources, TDI Shrimali first went to the seal the illegally constructed premises near Vijay Park society on June 20 .
"Shrimali had sealed the property. When he went to the same location three days later, the seal had been broken by Desai and some other locals," said a police source.
"Desai was enraged when Shrimali tried to seal the property again and beat him up. Shrimali lodged a complaint with us," added the source.
Inspector of Khokhra police station D N Chauhan said they will soon arrest the other accused persons.
