Activist seeks CBI probe

July 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Bidar:

Gurunath Wadde, social worker from Aurad, has sought a CBI inquiry into the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy, saying political interference had pushed him to ending his life.

Interference

Mr. Wadde, who has filed several public interest litigation petitions in the High Court of Karnataka seeking a permanent drinking water supply scheme for Aurad taluk, said that the State government was guilty of allowing too much political interference in the day-to-day administration of various departments, including police.

In a letter to President, Mr. Wadde has alleged that despite the stern warnings from the Supreme Court in the Prakash Sigh versus Union of India case, the State government had failed to keep policing away from politics. “Politicians decide the transfers and posting of all officers, from constables to Indian Police Service officers, only on personal and party loyalties and not on merit or suitability for the posts. Only when this practice ends completely, can the Police Department function independently,” he said.
