MMC looks to get 1st ISO 37001 rating
Mapusa: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) aspires to be India’s first anti-bribery certified municipality with the council resolving to secure an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certificate 37001 at a meet held on Friday. MMC chief officer Clen Madeira, moved a proposal before the council for three ISO certifications - ISO 9001 (quality management system), ISO 14001 (environment management system) and ISO 37001 (anti-bribery management system).

The certifications will help the MMC to improve their services and achieve a standard on par with international agencies.
ISO 37001 will be launched globally in September 2016.
To be ISO certified the council will have to meet certain criteria and will have to put in place a system for which the council will invite expression of interest for appointment of a consultant, who will help put the system in place as also make the desired changes in administration.
“MMC will put the system in place so that we can immediately apply for the certification. If we put in place the anti-bribery system quickly, before other municipalities in India, then we have a strong chance of becoming India’s first municipality to be certified with ISO 37001,” Madeira said adding that the whole system is expected to be in place by November 2016.
MMC will be the first municipality in Goa to have any kind of ISO certification and is geared to provide a responsive, non-corrupt, fast and efficient administration for the city of Mapusa.
