Hyderabad: Central Vigilance Commissioner K.V. Chowdhary has said use of technology alone cannot ensure that corruption is eliminated from government administration. The best solution would be to eliminate its root which is greed, he said, and favoured putting in place a network of systems for bank officials to verity the genuineness of data provided to them in KYC forms.

Addressing the 13th anniversary celebrations of Vigilance Study Circle here on Friday, he said technology that has helped to improve functioning of vigilance department can only be an enabler to enhance effectiveness and cannot prevent frauds on its own. “Technology is like a servant to us. We can successfully use it either to reduce frauds or identify a fraud,” he said.

The commissioner suggested that there should be systems in place that would send ‘alerts’ or ‘red flag indicators’ to the top management in the event of diversions. The CVC also noted that people were encouraging corruption among officials by resorting to ‘short-cut methods’ to get their work done faster. He appealed to the people to desist from such acts.
