Malabar's hopes get new wings with revised budget

Hopes of Malabar residents have received wings as the revised state budget has addressed many of their long pending demands. Kannur is undoubtedly the most benefitted district among north Kerala districts during this revised budget with special focus on Kannur Airport, Azheekkal port, two flyovers at Mele Chovva and South Bazar and other projects.

KOZHIKODE: Hopes of Malabar residents have received wings as the revised state budget has addressed many of their long pending demands. Kannur is undoubtedly the most benefitted district among north Kerala districts during this revised budget with special focus on Kannur Airport, Azheekkal port, two flyovers at Mele Chovva and South Bazar and other projects.
Heritage tourism project, Women and Child hospital at Thalassery, centre of excellence status for Brannan College, Rs 30 crore aids for GV Raja Sports School, Rs 29 crore for Malabar Cancer Centre and a 1000 acre industrial zone at Panayathamparamba are the key projects for Kannur.

The regional office of the Public Service Commission and online examination centre, Koyilandy fire station, Rs 100 crore each for Cyber Park and Government Mental Health Centre are the highlights for Kozhikode. Kozhikode Light metro project also received mention in the budget speech of the Finance minister giving hopes to Kozhikode residents. Coconut Agro park, Vykom Mohammed Basheer cultural complex and multipurpose indoor stadium will also benefit Kozhikode residents.

  • Revenue towers at Mattannur, Sulthan Bathery
  • Excise tower at Wayanad
  • Six bypass roads
  • Coconut Agro Parks at Kozhikode and Malappuram
  • Multi-purpose industrial zones at Panayathamparamba (Kannur) and Kasaragod
  • Road connectivity to Kannur airport
  • 11 mini stadiums
  • Cultural complexes in the names of Vagbhatananda (Kannur), Vykom Mohammed Basheer (Kozhikode), Edachena Kunkan (Wayanad), Subrahmania Thirumumbu (Kasaragod), Abdurahiman Sahib (Malappuram) each spending Rs40 crore.
