Water leak curtails Nico Rosberg in FP2

Nico Rosberg's British Grand Prix weekend suffered a setback after a water leak prevented him from completing a single lap in second practice.

Mercedes had looked dominant in FP1 on Friday morning but started the afternoon session with Rosberg's car in pieces in the garage. The championship leader's car had suffered a water leak, with Mercedes needing to carry out thorough checks which could not be completed until the end of the session.

It is a blow for Rosberg's preparations, preventing him from completing a qualifying simulation at a time track conditions are most relevant to Q3 tomorrow. The team confirmed the news midway through FP2.

It means Rosberg and Mercedes will have to lean on the data from teammate Lewis Hamilton's car, though that option has always been available for both drivers. It also prevented Mercedes from running a split tyre strategy to maximise the data it has on all three tyres ahead of the weekend.
