Thiruvananthapuram: The crime scene - the entire house - was cordoned off by the police and a few cops were standing inside the barricade. Yet, 14-year-old Abhayadas seemed unmoved by the chaos around him. He was busy tending to two goats, cleaning and feeding them.
The deceased, Maryadas, was a mason and a CPM member. His family has been cultivating vegetables and tuber on their land and had even converted a room of their house into a small grocery shop.
Maryadas's funeral was held in the evening after postmortem.
Party veteran V S Achuthanandan and state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited the residence in the evening.
"We don't know whether his relatives have told the boy about the tragedy, but we have chosen not to break the news ourselves and restrict his movement," said city control room assistant commissioner A Pramod Kumar, who was supervising the activities at the crime spot.
Though heart-broken at the sight, Thankaraj, a mason said, "The boy reflects the spirit of the hardworking family."
According to Venu, former branch secretary of CPM in Koliyoor, Maryadas was a socially responsible man. He once had a tiff with some local residents, who used to organize booze parties inside the irrigation canal in front of his house. "It is the only instance I knew when Maryadas had had involved in dispute," he said.
