The foundation stone-laying ceremony for a railway station, by Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL), at Innanje village in Udupi district will be held on Sunday.

Innanje village is located on the Konkan Railway route between Udupi and Mangaluru cities. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will do the “bhoomi puja” through video conferencing from Goa.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports; Shobha Karandlaje and Oscar Fernandes, MPs; and Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA, will be present. But the stage function of the ceremony will be held at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management at Bantakal village at 3.30 p.m.

According to Sudha Krishnamurthy, public relations officer of KRCL, there was public demand for a railway station at Innanje.

People of Manchakal, Bantakal, Shirva, Paniyur, and six other villages have already pressed for this station.

Depending on the sale of tickets, stoppages for express trains could be considered.

This would also help in the transportation of ‘Shankarpura Mallige’, which has a GI tag, to Mumbai and other places.
