The District Women and Child Development Agency (DW&CDA) has focused its attention on improving the functioning of Anganwadi centres with a thrust on effective implementation of supplementary nutrition activities under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in the district.

The officials of DW&CDA have stepped up field inspections to ensure strict compliance of the norms governing supply of eggs to a total of 4,305 Anganwadi centres by the contractors concerned in the entire district.

Eggs returned

The field officials of Khammam urban ICDS project have returned over one lakh eggs after detecting variation in the prescribed weight and treys during a surprise inspection here on Wednesday.

Sources here said that most of the eggs supplied by the contractor concerned weighed less than the stipulated weight of a minimum of 50 grams each, prompting the district authorities to return them.

Regular inspections

The field officials have been asked to conduct regular inspections of the Anganwadi centres to ensure provision of quality eggs to children, pregnant and lactating women in all the anganwadi centres under the 20 ICDS projects across the district, said Jyothirmayi, Project Officer, DW&CDA, Khammam.
