Congress to contest all 72 wards

July 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Congress will contest all the 72 wards in the forthcoming elections to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and youth would be given preference.

The decision on tickets would rest with the respective units and Delhi would have no say in it, AICC general secretary Digivijay Singh said on Thrusday.

Addressing City Congress leaders and cadre here, he said it was essential that all former ministers and people who held responsible positions be assigned a ward each and they be made accountable for the party performance there.

The next big challenge would be the forthcoming elections to Graduates Constituency in Legislative Council, Mr Singh said and announced that Vizianagaram DCC president Yedla Adi Raju would be the party candidate.

Calling upon all the party leaders to renew their touch with their constituencies, APCC general secretary Dronamraju Srinivas asked Mr Singh to invite AICC president Sonia Gandhi to visit the city to address party delegates from the 13 districts of the State.

There is widespread disenchantment against the ruling Telugu Desam and it is the responsibility of the Congress to express solidarity with the people and try and get their grievances redressed, he said.

The Telugu Desam government is carrying on the schemes of the previous government and claiming credit for them, DCC president P Balaraju said and ridiculed the TD government declaring every town a ‘hub’ for something or the other.
