Atari And Co-Creator Of 'Beats By Dr Dre' Announce New Partnership To Develop Co-Branded Products

This article is more than 7 years old.

Atari, perhaps one of the world's best-known publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, has announced that it’s entering a partnership with audio company ROAM. The idea behind the collaboration is to combine the Atari brand with ROAM’s stylish, high-quality earphones to create co-branded mobile audio products. The new line of gaming headphones and earphones will serve as a platform to bring ROAM’s personalized audio to listeners. As part of the deal, Atari has become a shareholder in ROAM. This isn’t the first co-branding move in the headphone market as Marshall Amplification has licensed its iconic brand to a headphone manufacturer to leverage brand recognition and apply it to the burgeoning headphone market.

As an innovator in the audio industry for more than a decade, Steven Lamar, co-creator of Beats by Dr Dre headphones and CEO of ROAM, founded the company to offer music lovers a new way to listen to the music they love. ROAM headphone technology differs from most audio designs by including customizable EQ settings that can be adjusted to suit the wearer’s ideal taste for bass, midrange and treble response as well as introducing other sound-shaping technology. ROAM’s Ropes product, which I’ll be reviewing in the next few weeks, offers a highly individual design with cutting-edge performance that will most likely appeal to millennials in search of an individualistic listening experience.

“I’ve been a fan of Atari my entire life,” said Lamar. “Collaborating with such an iconic brand is a dream come true. Together, we’re going to bring a fresh, fun and creative audio experience to generations of Atari fans.”

“ROAM is transforming the way people experience music. We are excited to partner with them because of their dedication to the art of sound and passion for delivering to users a quality product that will powerfully change the way they listen to music,” said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari.

Producer Stephen Belafonte, who helped broker the deal, will join as a partner in the joint venture. Belafonte has previously worked with Atari as a producer on both film and music projects.
