KALYAN: A railway employee and his son died due to pesticide poisoning on Thursday. The employee’s wife is battling for her life.
The deceased are Genu Musale (54) and his son Amul (15). Genu’s wife Anjana (48) is receiving treatment in Fortis Hospital, Kalyan. The Musales’ home is infested with rats. On Wednesday night, they went off to sleep after keeping pieces of rat poison in the .

In the wee hours of Thursday, they started coughing. “The Musales’ neighbour informed Genu’s elder son, Vijay, who lives with his uncle in Kalyan,” said a police officer.
“Vijay took his family to Central Railway Hospital. However, Genu and Amul died during treatment. While Anjana was shifted to Fortis Hospital,” he added. Residents complained about a peculiar stench from the Musales’ house. “The pesticide was so strong that policemen, who visited their house, found it unbearable to stay,” said Kalyanji Ghete, senior inspector of Kolsewadi police station. An accidental death report has been registered.
