Sultan storms box office; earns over Rs 40 cr on opening day

New Delhi, Jul 7 (UNI) Riding on the charisma of Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan, the Yashraj banner and a strong buzz around it, the superstar's latest film 'Sultan' has taken a flying start at the box office, earning over Rs 40 crore on its opening day, trade experts said. Trade sources said Salman Khan's Eid 2016 release 'Sultan' has stormed the box office, earning more than Rs 40 crore on its opening day yesterday. '#Sultan [Wed biz / pre-Eid]: ₹ 40 cr+ definitely... 41... 42... 43... It can touch these figures... Final numbers coming up... FANTABULOUS!' trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted. Produced by Yashraj banner and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Sultan" is a biopic on the life of Olympian wrestler sultan Ali khan. The film features Salman Khan in the lead role and Anushka Sharma as the female lead Aarfa, a wrestler and Sultan's love interest. It also features Kumud Mishra, Amit Sadh, Parikshit Sahni and Randeep Hooda in the supporting cast. Trade experts say that the huge charisma of the Bollywood heartthrob, the Yashraj banner and the strong buzz around the film have contributed to fetch a bumper opening for the film. They feel that the film could be benefitted by the Eid weekend. The film's release on Eid gives it a long five-day weekend which, trade experts feel, could help the film take a grand opening. Given the bumper start taken by the film, it could be expected to earn over Rs 100 to Rs 125 crore in its opening weekend itself. With its rocking start, the film has crossed the opening day collections of the top five openers for Salman so far. Salman's top five openers so far have been 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' with opening day earnings of Rs 40.35 crore, Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 33 crore), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 27.25 crore), Kick (RS 26.52 crore) and Dabangg 2 (Rs 21 crore). The film is the first time that Salman is being seen in the role of a wrestler. UNI AR SW AE 1622
