Rs 1.63 cr avoidable expenditure on purchase of Tulips by Floriculture dept

Srinagar, Jul 7 (UNI) Castigating the Floriculture department for avoidable expenditure of Rs 1.63 crore on purchase of Tulip bulbs, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India said the department had failed to identify an agency for establishment of store which resulted in blockade of funds to the extent of Rs 3.95 crore.
Failure of the department authorities to identify an agency for establishment of cold store at tulip garden on the foothill of Zabarwan hills overlooking of world famous Dal Lake resulted in blockade of funds to the extent of Rs 3.95 crore and avoidable expenditure of Rs 1.63 crore on purchase of tulip bulbs.
For propagation and storage of tulip and other bulbs in scientific manner, the Director Floriculture Kashmir proposed in September 2009 establishment of a cold store at Tulip Garden at a cost of Rs 4 crore to the state government.
