Israel targets Syrian army posts in Golan Heights

July 5, 2016 at 10:16 am

Israel announced on Sunday that it had targeted Syrian army posts in Syria after projectiles were launched at the security fence in Quneitra in the occupied Golan Heights, Quds Press reported.

Israel’s Channel 10 reported a spokesperson of the Israeli army saying that the incident did not pose a danger to Israeli residents or soldiers, but that the army targeted Syrian posts to show its persistence to responding to any attack.

Channel 10 reported that the Israeli attack caused a fire at the Syrian army posts.

Two months ago, Reuters reported, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has launched dozens of strikes in Syria.

He said that though formally neutral on the civil war, Israel has frequently pledged to prevent shipments of advanced weaponry to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group, whose fighters have been allied with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The Israeli military has also responded in the past with shelling and airstrikes to mortar bombs that have landed in the Golan during battles in the Syrian conflict.
