Tamilisai praises Kiran Bedi

July 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Tamilisai Sounderrajan called on Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi at the Raj Nivas on Wednesday. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes.

Describing the meeting as a “courtesy call”, Ms. Sunderrajan praised the Lieutenant Governor’s initiative to make Puducherry, a clean Union Territory. Ms. Bedi has taken a keen interest in implementing the Swachh Bharat scheme.

Ms. Sunderrajan said the law and order situation in neighbouring Tamil Nadu was a cause of concern with the rise in crimes against women. “It remains to be seen how the police are going to handle the situation since an atmosphere of insecurity is prevailing in the State,” she said.

On the Goods and Service Taxes Bill, she said that Tamil Nadu was the only State which was not supporting the Bill. The GST was not a scheme of the BJP government at the Centre and people would benefit from the scheme. The BJP is also gearing up to contest the local body elections in Tamil Nadu, she added.
