Constable sends suicide note on WhatsApp

Has senior cops in a tizzy

July 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

A constable posted as a driver in a Hoysala patrolling vehicle wrote a suicide note and sent it to his colleagues on Tuesday on the instant messaging platform WhatsApp.

According to his colleagues, Constable Srinivas indicated that he was ending his life as he fed up of the harassment by senior officers.

His worried colleagues immediately alerted their superiors and began looking for him.

“The entire police force in the sub-division was in a tizzy for over half an hour. We found him in his residence. A police contingent rushed to his house. He was persuaded to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Police,” said a constable from Jayanagar.

DCP (South) Dr. S. D. Sharanappa, who spoke to Srinivas, said, “He had issues with his seniors and unhappy over being posted as a driver. I promised to sort out his grievances. He has been granted leave for a few days.”

Was constable denied leave?

Sources in the police station said that Srinivas, who is part of the 2007 batch, also had issues over non-sanctioning of leave.

In the past, the constabulary had tried to raise the issue of leave with their seniors.

The constable is from Kanakapura. He has a baby boy. According to a constable, Srinivas had requested leave to celebrate his son’s first birthday. “His request had been rejected,” the constable said. But Mr. Sharanappa denied these allegations and said that Srinivas’s unhappiness stemmed from his posting as a driver.

Srinivas was not available for comment.
