NEW DELHI: Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, responsible for the Dhaka attack last week, poses a real threat to India as well, especially bordering states like West Bengal and Assam. Investigators said six JMB leaders, who formed units in Burdwan, are still absconding and they could plan the attacks.
The NIA, which almost flushed out the outfit in 2014-15 with the arrest of several JMB members from India, is in regular touch with Bangladeshi counterparts.
NIA had arrested 20 persons, including Bangladeshi nationals, in the Burdwan blast probe. JMB had also created a bomb factory in India from where bombs were taken to Bangladesh. The probe revealed that JMB had collected chemical explosives in huge quantities, apart from manuals for manufacture of grenade mortars and RPGs.
One of the main conspirators – Bangladeshi national Shakil Gaza alias Shamin had come to India from Tangail, Bangladesh in 2007. He initially stayed in Metiaburuj, Kolkata and then shifted to Beldanga, Murshidabad. Shakil, sources said, was provided huge finances by JMB leader Kausar alias Boma Mizan for carrying subversive activities in India while another Bangladeshi Nasirrulah provided training in IED-making to Indians inclined towards the outfit. The NIA found “rigorous jihadi training” was provided at a madrassa in Lalgola, Murshidabad under supervision of one Sajid and Mohammad Yousef.
