Ponda: A special meeting of Goa Dairy's board of directors has voted out its chairman Baburao Fatto Desai by 9-1 votes on Wednesday. Fatto Desai’s ousting is seen as a jolt to cooperative minister Mahadev Naik. He was considered as an appointee of the minister concerned.
The group of nine members, including Madhav Sahakari, Vithoba Desai, Shrikant Naik, Dhananjay Desai, Gurudas Parab, Rajendra Sawal, Ulhas Sinari, Naresh Malik and Shivanand Pednekar, who had moved the motion, voted for the motion.

While Fatto Desai voted against the motion, Madhavrao Desai abstained from voting. Vijaykant Gaonkar was absent.
The special meeting was called by the registrar following a directive by the high court. The meeting that was held in the dairy premises, decided the motion through voice vote by raising their hands.
Sources said that there were efforts by Fatto Desai and the minister, too, to avert the no-trust motion.
Fatto Desai, chairman of the Cacora cooperative dairy society in Cacora, was elected as chairman of Goa Dairy on October 15, 2015.
He was the third chairman in a row after the general election to the post and board of directors in January 2012. Though he was elected in the opposition group in 2012, he managed to get elevated to the post in 2015.

The Goa state cooperative milk producers’ union, popularly known as Goa Dairy, has a 15-member board of directors including 12 elected members and three nominees including its managing director, one each nominee of the National Dairy Development Board, New Delhi, and the Cooperative Registrar.
On January 15, 2012, in a general election to the dairy board of directors, the 165 member society’s representatives had voted Shrikant Naik’s Goa Dairy Bachao panel to power. Naik panel has won seven seats, while outgoing chairman Madhav Sahakari’s panel got five seats.
Baburao Fatto Desai was elected from the Madhav Sahakari panel.
