The chief of Vunidawa na Vunivalu e Nakorovatu, Ratu Timoci Rokobukete, is calling on the iTaukei people to support Eid celebrations.

He said for the many Muslims who celebrate Eid their forefathers had contributed immensely to the development of our nation.

“They are our brothers and sisters and we should support them in their celebration,” he said.

“The nation is governed by a Government that supports multiracialism and by supporting Eid and being part of it will be good for the community and the nation too.”

Ratu Timoci said certain people had different views about Eid but these critics should also support the celebration.

Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important days in the Muslim calendar. It marks the end of fasting and prayer in the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid celebration started after the moon was sighted on Tuesday.
