But could only manage to steal cash, mobile phones worth Rs 11,000.

Khar police have registered a case of theft against unidentified men who broke into the boutique of famous designer Monisha Jaisingh and decamped with cash and two mobile phones worth a total of Rs 11,000, early on Tuesday, despite the store having a separate guard. Though the identity of the accused was not known, the police managed to obtain footage from CCTV cameras fitted at the showroom, which showed that the guard had been threatened and shooed away by three unidentified men.

According to the police, the incident took place during the wee hours of Tuesday when two to three people, who were seen moving around in the area suspiciously, stopped near the store and did a quick recce of the store. Two of them then picked up stones and smashed the window panes of the shop, while the other accused kept a watch outside. In the footage, the accused are seen entering the boutique and searching for money at the cash counter. There was only Rs 1,000 kept in the drawer, while the safe with the bulk of the cash was locked. They tried breaking the safe but in vain. After struggling in vain for five minutes, they decided to leave the store as the building watchmen had already raised an alarm by then. Before fleeing from the spot, the accused picked up two mobile phones that were kept on the table.

After they left, the building watchmen arrived at the scene and tried to follow the accused but lost them. When they came back to the store, they found the store watchman had already fled after getting threatened. The accused had threatened him and asked him to leave without raising an alarm. The store, which is located on the ground floor of Shailja building, has its own exclusive security.

Senior inspector Ramchandra Jadhav of Khar police station said, “The store manager has registered a theft complaint with us. We are at present going through the CCTV footage for clues. The accused will be nabbed soon.”

Jaisingh was thankful that not much had been lost. “Thankfully everything is fine. It could have been much worse. Fortunately, I have great security.”
