Ranveer Singh’s style evolution

Ranveer Singh stole our hearts the second he broke into a jig to Ainvayi ainvayi in Band Baaja Baaraat. He doesn’t just take on a character but its personality and that translates into his style statement too. He can go from being the don’t-carish Delhi boy to a charming con and a Peshwa warrior with minimal effort, which has maximum impact. On his birthday, we chart his evolution as a filmi style icon through the years…

Meet Bittoo

From wearing basic tees and jeans, borrowed shirts and flashy, almost garish clothes for the wedding sequences, to maintaining that unkempt hair much like the give-a-damn Bittoo, Ranveer created a rugged yet charming persona for himself.

Charming the ladies

He went from looking like a Dilli da munda to classy chor in no time! Chiseled abs and slick back hair made for quite the malleable look for this con man, who became a Lucknowi cloth merchant and a kitsch art dealer in the same breath. And that red fedora in Aadat se majboor became rather iconic too.

Loot liya!

Channeling the old-school vibe of the 1950s, Ranveer rocked the suspenders and pants with as much ease as the muted shirts and jackets, along with hardcore men’s accessories like fedoras and sunglasses. Even the switchover to the later years, which included a full-faced beard and an almost haggard look, had a distinct finesse and maturity to it, much like his performance.

Hey Ram!

He grew out his hair, sported a twirlable moustache and gave that well-oiled chest plenty of screen time for Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela. The loud coloured and semi-traditional attire, contrasted with the pure, plain white dhoti in Ang laga de re, showed us the many shades of his character. And we can’t help but admire how stately he looks in a turban in Nagada sang dhol.

Retro gunda

Playing a smuggler in 70s Calcutta, Ranveer kept the long hair and moustache from Ram-Leela, something we almost got accustomed to even in his off-duty looks. But this time around, he went for boot-cut bell bottoms and safari suits, bringing back the retro flavour.

Goan groom

In a bit appearance in Finding Fanny, Ranveer took on the mantle of a Goan groom, pure white tux and all. What we loved most was the slick back hair and the goatee like beard.

Killer looks

Kill Dil may not have worked at the box-office but Ranveer’s mop-like hair and highlights were quite the rage. Even the minimal highlights made for an interesting touch. This also marked the return of the clean shaven look and a little more of his innocent charm.

Kabir Mehra, nice to meet you

From street smart to urban cool, Ranveer morphed into a Delhi boy yet again for Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do. Capitalising on every new fashion trend – coloured pants, nautical stripes and colour blocked clothing, Ranveer looked simple yet super stylish.

Mooch ado

And it’s back! Before we started to miss it for too long, Ranveer brought back the mooch for Bajirao Mastani. But he took his dedication to his role notches high as he went bald to play the peshwa, eventually sporting a man tail. The stately warrior outfits suited him well, along with the flared and skirted kurtas and outfits. Not to forget the embellished armour for Malhari.

Carefree vibes only

After a carefully manicured look for Bajirao Mastani, he’s back to being carefree for his next, Befikre. Messy but stylish hair, clean shaven look and back in casual clothing, we can’t wait to see what all he’s got in store for us.
