Transneft' AK : Svyaztransneft Has Commissioned New Communications Link Yaroslavl – Primorsk

The Upper Volga subsidiary of Svyaztransneft (Yaroslavl) has commissioned the Yaroslavl - Primorsk fibre-optic communications link (FOCL) of 875 kilometres in length. The works were carried out within the Sever Project. The new communications line covers Yaroslavl, Tver, Novgorod, and Leningrad Regions.

The system of converged packet optical transport network DWDM utilized in this FOCL for the first time has been unique for Russia so far. This system is a single platform, which can ensure the traffic transmission at a rate of more than 100G: 400G now and 1T in future. The platform also supports the Software Defined Optics thus ensuring a flexible redistribution of resources and improving the spectral efficiency of the network for the direct consumers, Transneft Baltic and Transneft Primorsk Port.

According to the results of the tests, the initial traffic capability of the new FOCL made 2x10 Gb/s. Ultimately, the data-transmission rate of the Yaroslavl - Primorsk link can be increased to 2x100 Gb/s. The system can use maximally 96 optical channels with the capacity from 100 Gb/s each. Furthermore, the DWDM system can be used in various segments of the network, including long haul and ultra-long communications networks.
