Bhamre, a surprise

July 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MUMBAI:

One of the surprising inductees into Tuesday’s Union Cabinet expansion was the BJP MP from Maharashtra’s Dhule-Malegaon, Subhash Bhamre, a first-timer in the Lok Sabha. Coming from the party stronghold of north Maharashtra, Dr. Bhamre’s inclusion, surpassing the three-time MP from Dindori, Harishchandra Chavan, has raised eyebrows.

It is also seen as an attempt to snub tainted former State minister and party heavyweight from the same region, Eknath Khadse.

Dr. Bhamre, a cancer surgeon, is said to be the party leadership’s choice to promote new and educated faces at the Centre.
