Students of BVB, Erode, take lion’s share at SRCC

Over 75% of students in B.Com. (Hons) and B.A. (Hons) are from TN

July 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - ERODE:

As many as 43 students from Bharathi Vidhya Bhavan (BVB) school at Thindal in Erode district have secured admission in the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), New Delhi, affiliated to Delhi University.

For the first time in the history of SRCC, a large number of students from a single school have secured admission by surpassing cut-offs of 98 per cent for B.Com (Hons) and 98.25 for B.A. Economics (Hons).

High aggregate

In fact, over 75 per cent of students admitted to the first year B.Com (Hons) and B.A. (Hons) courses in SRCC are from Tamil Nadu, by virtue of scoring an aggregate of 99 per cent and above, and most of them have opted for B.Com (Hons) programme.

Students from BVB have been admitted in SRCC in large numbers in recent years.

36 students last year

Last year, 36 students were admitted and the year before 28 students gained entry, BVB principal N.S. Karthiyayini said.

“The reason could be attributed to the choice of Commerce group by bright students in recent years,” she said.

She also observed that the saturation in engineering programme and the merit-based admission to limited number of medical seats had prompted high-scorers to opt for Commerce group.

Prefer Commerce

The trend of students taking up Commerce group to pursue Chartered Accountancy, MBA, entrepreneurship and career in banking sector had become noticeable, she added.

The successful applicants from BVB, who have made it to SRCC, include a good number of students of North Indian origin whose families had settled in Erode as businessmen for generations.
