A ‘Three-Week Refresher Course in Hindi’ was concluded at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). As many as 32 university and college teachers from across the country participated in the course.

Prof Narender Mohan, an eminent Hindi scholar and creative writer from University of Delhi, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prof Mohan, in his valedictory address, described language and literature as the cohesive forces, which, he said, were the dire need of the hour all over the world in view of growing conflict and fratricidal disputes. “We, the teachers, being the enlightened section of society, have to rise to the occasion and act as torchbearers of the universally-acknowledged eternally true values like humanity, compassion, brotherhood and love for the entire mankind. In addition to it, our primary responsibility was to impart knowledge to students, he said. The so-called “information explosion” requires to be converted into “knowledge explosion”, he emphasised.

Felicitating the successful participants of the course, he exhorted them to be more creative, innovative and inquisitive in pursuit of excellence. Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, registrar, GNDU, apprised the participants about the rapid strides made by the university in the last few decades. He was of the view that the university had already carved a niche for itself in the realms of higher education in the country.

He lauded the persistent endeavours of the HRDC in updating the expertise, competence and knowledge of the teachers through such courses. Meanwhile, Prof Dhillon also freely interacted with the participants and entertained their queries to their satisfaction.

Expressing their satisfaction at the hassle-free completion of the course, the participants opined that they felt themselves enriched, benefited and enlightened during this course. Prof Sudha Jitender, head, Department of Hindi, GNDU, and the coordinator of the event, summarised the contents of the course. She also shed light on the role of language and literature in inculcating the right moral values in society at large. Earlier, the chief guest was accorded a floral welcome by Prof Dhillon, Prof Sudha Jitender and Dr Mohan Kumar. In the end, certificates were given away to the successful participants. Dr Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
