53 prisoners released ahead of Eid

BAJAUR AGENCY - The Administration of Bajaur Agency has released 53 prisoners in order to facilitate them to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with family members.

The prisoners were released on the orders issued by Additional Political Agent Mohammad, Irfanuddin during a visit to the prison.

The additional political agent was accompanied by PML-N MNA from Bajaur Agency Shahabuddin Khan, MNA Haji Bismillah Khan and senior officials of the political administration here the other day.

The jail authorities briefed visitors about the number of people kept in the jail and the nature of their crimes.

According to the jail officials, over 250 prisoners mostly detained for minor crimes have been in the jail for several months.

They said most prisoners were poor and that they had not been produced before the court of assistant political agents since their arrest. The additional political agent ordered the release of 53 prisoners involved in petty crimes.

Later, the visitors examined barracks and different parts of the jail and learned about the prisoner’s problems.

The prisoners on the occasion informed the officials and lawmakers about the problems and issues being faced with them in jail.

They also complained about the substandard quality of food and lack of basic needs in the jail. The visitors also visited the ongoing works in the jail to establish new barracks and rooms there.

On the occasion, PML-N MNA Shahab said the federal government has decided to improve the standard of jails in the tribal areas as well providing basic and modern facilities to the prisoners.

He said that works on new building was a part of the scheme to provide basic and modern facilities to the prisoners in tribal areas, which had already been given to jails in districts.
