Let’s zumba
Noida’s new-found love for zumba saw the addition of another glitzy chapter recently, as hundreds of city residents – both young and old – took part in a large-scale synchronised zumba performance in the city. Zumba, a fitness form based on dance, is usually performed in studios or occasionally as part of outdoor events on a small scale, but here, Noida saw over 150 zumba enthusiasts who danced their way into the night.
Bringing the form to india
Dubbed zumba masterclass, the event was organized and hosted by two zumba trainers from Noida – Niyati Sharma and Anubha Singh.
The star attraction of the evening was Sucheta Pal, who is considered one of the top zumba practitioners in the country. Many had travelled to participate in the event just to meet her. Jaspal, a Delhi resident, said, "I drove all the way from Dwarka to Noida just to meet Sucheta and be a part of this thing. She doesn’t come to NCR often, so it’s a treat for us zumba lovers." The instructor, herself, was amazed at the turnout. She said, "I discovered zumba in the US where I taught the form for three years before launching it in India in 2012. The vibe is the same aroung the world. It’s really good to see Noida coming up, because in places like Mumbai and Delhi, everybody already does zumba. They are familiar with it. But when we get to experience something new in a place like Noida, it gives me a happy high." The evening also saw a zumba small performance by kids from a city-based NGO IndyaGenius.
Healthy and fit
Madan Chauhan, UP MoS (independent charge) for Entertainment Tax, was the chief guest at the event. Applauding the spirit of the Noidawallahs who braved the heat and humidity to come out in large numbers, he said, "I thank Sucheta Pal, who has created awareness about zumba, for bringing it to Noida in such a grand fashion. But I also want to congratulate Noidawallahs for turning up in large numbers. Fitness is the key to life and such activities keep us healthy. Noida needs more such initiatives, kyunki agar humein zinda rehna hai, toh fit bhi rehna chahiye."
A flash mob-like feeling
For the participants, it was a unique experience participating in such a large-scale activity. Ekaterina, a Russian national who travelled all the way from Vasant Kunj, said, "The atmosphere is great and it feels good to be performing and dancing with so many people with such great energy. I absolutely loved it!" Apart from the participants, a crowd of a few hundred gathered around to witness the performance. Anu, a Sector 25 resident, told us, "It almost felt like a flash mob as it was right outside a mall, only difference is that it had people leading it. The level of energy here was crazy. I hope Noida hosts more such events."
