Crafts Exotica woos culture lovers

Kota Kinabalu: Culture enthusiasts can learn more about Sabah's ethnic communities at the ongoing Crafts Exotica programme held at the State Museum here.The July 1-26 event is one of the museum's programmes aimed at promoting awareness on Sabah's heritage via handicraft and games, it said in a statement, here, on Monday.

It was also held in conjunction with the State Museum's 51st Anniversary this year.

"Various activities will be held throughout Crafts Exotica such as craft-making demonstrations like textile, embroidery, beads, animal traps, basket, home equipment and traditional games for students to take part."

This year, it will be holding the programme at five different locations.

Activities include handicrat exhibition from the Dusun Segama, Begak, Sungai Makiang, Murut Tanggala, Lundayeh, Murut Paluan, Murut Boukan, Dusun Lobou, Dusun Kwijau, Dusun Tambunan, Rungus, Tombonuo, Kimaragang, Dusun Gobukon, Dusun Tindal, Brunei, Tatana and Iranun.

Other line-ups are traditional games, spinning tops and blowpipe exhibition at Kampung Warisan near the museum while competitions will be held on weekends.

The State Museum will be working together with the State Education Department for the colouring, drawing and quiz competitions for students on July 16.

The handicraft exhibition from the Dusun Labuk, Tempios, Minokok, Liwan, Sukang and Brunei will be held at the Agnes Keith House in Sandakan on July 7 to 20, while traditional game displays will be held everyday.

Meanwhile, handicraft exhibition from the Dusun Subpan, Mangkaak, Kunatong, Idahan and Sungai will be held at the Agop Batu Tulung Museum from July 12 to 25.
